Update 10/09/05

We're trying to get as many visas as possible before we leave. The Egyptian visa was easy and took only a few days to organise using the information on the embassy website. The Kenyan visa was equally simple to get and we've managed to get a 6 month visa for the price of a 3 month one. Our passports are currently with the Ethiopian embassy which has promised a week to process the application. The invitation letter from the Libyan Travel Agency has arrived at the Libyan embassy in London, so we need to arrange to go and collect the visa. There is an application form to fill in and you need 4 passport photos per person with the £45 fee. This makes it an expensive process as we have already paid Ä50 per person for the invitation letter.

Sudan is proving to be the most difficult. We applied for the visa 1 month ago and have yet to hear if this has been approved. It can take 6 to 8 weeks and we are leaving on the 5th October. I am phoning the embassy every other day and hope to make a single trip to the big smoke to pick up both the Libyan and Sudanese visas.

We have booked the ferry crossing from Poole to Cherbourg and also the crossing from Genoa to Tunis. £670 for both (!) Ouch. But the date is set for leaving now and so we have to be ready in time. No pressure.
